2010 Suzuki Swift

Unveiled at the firm's Magyar Suzuki Corporation production facility at Esztergom, in Hungary is the 2010 Suzuki Swift which sports an evolutionary look from the previous generation.

A new power plant line-up accompanies the 2010 Swift among them is the 1.2-liter petrol engine with Dual VVT (Variable intake and exhaust valve timing) which replaces the outgoing 1.3-liter unit. It produces 94-horsepower at 6,000rpm, slightly more than the outgoing 1.3-litre unit, while torque is also improved to 118Nm (87 lb-ft) at 4,800rpm.

Fuel consumption for this engine on the combined cycle is 5.0 lt/100km, equal to 56.5mpg UK and 47.0mpg US for the manual transmission model, an improvement of 0.8lt/100km or 7.8mpg UK over the previous 1.3-litre unit.

Emissions are much lower as well as the new 1.2-litre engine with manual transmission produces 116g/km on the combined cycle; representing a 24g/km or 17 per cent improvement over the 1.3. An optional automatic transmission will be available for the petrol engine from launch.

The reworked 1.3-liter diesel engine produces 75HP and according to Suzuki, it emits 109g/km (down from 119g/km) and has a combined fuel consumption of 4.2lt/100km, equal to 67.3mpg UK and 56.0mpg US (previous model: 4.5lt/100km or 62.8mpg UK).

Underneath the body panels, there's an all-new platform that increases the 2010 Swift's wheelbase by 50mm to 2,380mm and the car's overall length by 90mm to 3,850mm. The new Swift is also slightly wider (+5mm) and taller (+10mm) and comes with wider front (+10mm) and rear tracks (+5mm).

I will post up high resolution pictures of the interior as soon as it is available. So please do return and check.

Hyundai is quickly proving with its Genesis luxury sedan that a lower-end Asian automaker can play in the V8-powered big leagues, and if the reports are to be believed, Suzuki wants in. The Japanese carmaker's Kizashi concepts, unveiled in Frankfurt and Tokyo last year, proved popular enough for Suzuki to move ahead with production plans and target a late 2009 roll-out. But before it settles on what form the production version will take, Suzuki is reportedly preparing a third iteration to show at the New York Auto Show in March, and this one will be powered by a V8 driving all four wheels, compared to its turbodiesel and V6 predecessors. Whether there's any truth to the reports will become evident as we weave through Manhattan traffic towards the Javits Center, so stay tuned.

Chicago '08 Preview: Suzuki Equator shown in Truck Trend

Truck Trend is quickly becoming a thorn in the side of a couple automakers, first by spilling the beans about the 2009 HUMMER H3T in its March/April issue, and now by revealing details about the new Suzuki Equator in the same issue. The rebadged Nissan Frontier is set to make its official debut next week at the Chicago Auto Show, and the illustration provided by Truck Trend is apparently a dead-ringer for the production model. We'll have to wait until next week for all the details, but Jalopnik was kind enough to post a scan of the yet-to-be-released pickup. You're looking at it.

A-OKei: Suzuki Palette arrives in Japan

A-OKei: Suzuki Palette arrives in Japan
click image for hi-res gallery of the Suzuki Palette

Suzuki makes and sells a whole lot of kei-class tall wagons in Japan, thanks to the ever-popular Wagon R and all the variants it has produced. The latest micro-minivan to hit the market is the Palette, which the automaker first showed at last year's Tokyo Motor Show. On sale January 30, the Palette is a tall-roofed four-passenger minivan whose key features are dual sliders (with power available on one or both sides, depending on trim level) and its low, flat load floor. Practicality is king with cars like this, but for buyers interested in having added niceties, the list of standard and available features include keyless entry and start, HID headlamps, different stereo options, and trim-grade-specific exterior styling elements. All are typical of Suzuki's kei car offerings, as are the availability of NA or turbocharged engines, manual and automatic gearboxes, and a choice of 2WD or 4WD. Suzuki doesn't mention power outputs for the engines, but assuming the Palette is to be a kei car, the maximum allowable is 64 hp, which you'd get from the turbo. Chalk up another nifty little city car for Suzuki.

Suzuki sees big future in small cars at Tokyo

Riding the crest of a sales boom around the world, Suzuki will have a major presence at the 40th Tokyo Motor Show starting later this month. The Suzuki stand will feature a ‘Small Cars for a Big Future’ theme, reflecting the huge future possibilities envisaged by the company for compact cars. “Each of our exhibits will embody the unique spirit and technological prowess that have made Suzuki the leading name in compact car design and production,” said a Suzuki spokesperson.

Kizashi 2

After wowing the car world with Concept Kizashi at the 2007 Frankfurt Motor Show, Suzuki will unveil Concept Kizashi 2 – a crossover sports wagon – at Tokyo Motor Show. The Kizashi 2 design conveys the dynamism of a top athlete and inspires a powerful sense of excitement. Conceived for energetic people from all walks of life, Concept Kizashi 2 has an aesthetically pleasing form that reflects a dual focus on status and vitality in a way that generates excitement about its performance and heightens the pleasure of ownership. Under the bonnet a 3.6-litre V6 – the biggest engine ever used by Suzuki – is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission for powerful acceleration and superb levels of performance. As announced at Frankfurt last month, Suzuki engineers are also pursuing solutions such as hybrid technologies for the mid-size concept programme.

Sustainable Mobility (PIXY + SSC ‘Suzuki Sharing Coach’)

Suzuki will unveil a new people-focused vehicle concept at Tokyo called Sustainable Mobility. It consists of a single seater low-speed transport pod called PIXY and a minicar-based mobility unit called the Suzuki Sharing Coach (SSC) which forms an automobile when paired with the PIXY. PIXY and SSC together deliver personal, shared urban transportation in line with the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry’s Next Generation Vehicle and Fuel Initiative, aimed at realizing the world’s most people-centred motorized society. PIXY is a one person transport device based on the concept of ‘friendly’ mobility. Moving at low speeds on footpaths and inside buildings, it’s enjoyably easy to operate, even for people unable to drive conventional cars. The SSC is a minicar-based mobility unit, which can hold a maximum two PIXY units. PIXY is not the only unit SSC can be coupled with. It can also be paired with a sports car unit called the SSF and with a marine unit called the SSJ, resulting in a new kind of personal mobility and sharing system.

X-HEAD

The X-HEAD is a cross utility vehicle offering a host of possibilities for people wanting to explore their world. Boasting a DNA borne of the legendary off-road capabilities of the Jimny and Grand Vitara and the load carrying capacity of the APV, X-HEAD epitomizes functional dependability and fun. A key feature of X-HEAD is that it can hold various load-bed units for diverse purposes. For example, it can hold a unit called the Camper, which provides sleeping space for two adults; a unit called the Fashion, which provides stylish urban mobility; and a unit called the Rescue, which is designed for emergency rescue operations in a wide range of extreme environments.

Palette

The Palette is a minicar aimed at parents who cherish time with their children, and at young drivers who like having fun with their friends. Combining emotionally appealing styling cues with a cabin roomy enough for four people, Palette delivers a level of comfort unprecedented among minicars. It also boasts revolutionary packaging, with left and right-hand powered sliding doors and a low, flat floor for maximum convenience.
