Lotus Elan Concept
The new 2+2 seater Lotus Elan is positioned somewhere in between the Lotus Elise and the Esprit, and it has its engine positioned in the mid-engine position, with rear wheel drive. Lotus says the Elan will be powered by a 4.0 liter V6 making 450 PS and 465Nm of torque, which can take the Elan up to 100km/h in 3.5 seconds.

This V6 engine could also be sourced from Toyota as the Japanese company has the 1GR-FE installed mainly in its trucks and SUVs. Toyota themselves have force inducted the engine – their TRD division offers a TRD supercharger kit for the engine used in the Toyota Tacoma and Toyota FJ Cruiser trucks.

The Elan will hit the market much earlier than the other larger and more expensive cars we’ve seen here – it will also be released before the next generation Elise. Lotus is targeting a summer 2013 start of production, with cars hitting the showrooms in autumn 2013, just 3 years from now.

“If there was ever a car to make you drive the long way home, it’s the Elan. Perfect for both road and track, the Elan not only ticks all the boxes, it creates new ones too. The Elan will convert people to Lotus, I would challenge people not to become addicted to driving it. It will also go a long way towards dispelling the old misconceptions about this class, that in order to have high performance you must sacrifice usability – those days are gone,” said Lotus CEO Dany Bahar. The black cabin showcased on the Paris 2010 concept car certainly looks nice – I think it’s the best of all the Lotus concepts. The Elan looks like a 911 competitor?

A certain “e-mail malfunction” has revealed that Lotus will be unveiling two new variants of the Lotus Evora at its 10,000 square feet stand at the 2010 Paris Motor Show alongside some new mysterious cars (which should include a new Esprit) that is apparently so hush-hush that it isn’t being discussed openly even internally in e-mails.

The two new variants are the Lotus Evora S and the Lotus Evora Automatic. The first is presumably a variant of the Evora that’s had its 3.5 liter Toyota V6 boosted up in terms of horsepower and torque via a supercharger, and the latter mentioned model is quite self-explanatory – an Evora with an automatic transmission. The Evora is currently available only with a 6-speed manual transmission.

Hennessey has already divulged practically every piece of information we want to know about its 2011 Venom GT supercar. It's built on a heavily molested Lotus Elise chassis and driven by one of three versions of the 6.2-liter LS9 V8 used in the Corvette ZR1. The base model is supercharged and produces 725 horsepower and 741 pound-feet of torque. The other two mills are both twin turbocharged and produce 1,000 hp and 1,200 hp, respectively. All three models use the same six-speed Ricardo transmission as the Ford GT. Weight: 2,548 lbs dry and 2,685 lbs loaded with fuel. Price: Somewhere north of $600,000 for the base supercharged model. Yeah, this is some serious stuff.

The Texas-based tuner (can we really call a company that builds something like this a tuner?) has finished the very first production Venom GT, and it's a duesy. Chassis Number 01 is a top tier twin-turbo model, the same one clocked producing 933 rwhp a few weeks ago on a dyno.

As if the numbers don't paint a pretty enough picture, Hennessey recently hired a photographer to snap some beauty shots of its Venom GT. The high-res image gallery below sports some 56 images, some of which are good, many of which could be better. May we offer up our own ace photog Drew Phillips? We're quite sure he'd be happy to snap a pictorial starring the new Venom GT.
