Revealed by GM ahead of its official debut.the Chevrolet Cruze Hatchback is a five- door car developed by Holden in Melbourne.

According to Holden chief designer Richard Ferlazzo, his team spent more than 12 months working with GM designers from across the globe to develop this car. “Our brief was to create an alternative body style to the traditional sedan that retained the same dynamic proportions that has made Cruze such a success around the world,” he said.

Apparently, the design of the Cruze hatchback that we see here is final, as the design team created the production car first, before adapting it to look suitably glamourous for a motor show. This means that once you take off those huge wheels and fancy headlamps, you’re looking at the production Chevy Cruze hatchback.

This five-door Cruze, which sits on GM’s Delta II platform like the Opel Astra, has neat proportions and shares styling cues with the sedan – the front end is mostly identical while the profile signature line and the placement of door handles are familiar. It remains to be seen if there’s any change to the “double cockpit” interior.

Australia currently imports the Cruze sedan from Korea, badging it as a Holden.

Chevrolet Traverse (2009)

The 2009 Chevrolet Traverse delivers a robust and satisfying combination of power, efficiency, ride and safety. The driving experience is supported by a sophisticated, 3.6L DOHC V-6 that features variable valve timing and gasoline direct-injection technology. It is designed to provide excellent power and efficiency that translates to usable, power-on-demand performance and what is expected to be the best highway fuel economy in the segment.

The engine is backed by a fuel-saving six-speed automatic transmission that channels power to a responsive, four-wheel independent suspension.

"Traverse delivers a win-win for customers: It is expected to have the best fuel economy in the segment, along with the most power," said Ed Peper, Chevrolet general manager. "With its great looks and excellent driving characteristics, it's a vehicle that customers will love to drive."

Great power and fuel economy

The 3.6L engine's direct-injection technology helps produce power similar to many V-8 engines and uses regular unleaded gasoline. The Chevrolet Traverse is rated at an estimated 286 horsepower (213 kW) and 255 lb.-ft. of torque (345 Nm) with dual exhaust (281 hp/210 kW and 253 lb.-ft./343 Nm with single exhaust) - but delivers better-than-expected fuel economy. Ninety percent of the engine's peak torque is available from approximately 2,500 rpm to more than 6,000 rpm.

With direct injection, fuel is sprayed directly into the engine cylinder, where it is mixed with air. As the fuel vaporizes in the cylinder, the air and fuel mixture is cooled. This enables the use of a higher compression ratio in the combustion chamber, which improves engine performance and efficiency. Less fuel is required to produce the equivalent horsepower - particularly at normal cruising speeds - of a conventional, port-injection system. Also, the use of unique pistons with the direct-injection system helps reduce cold-start emissions by 25 percent.

Advanced, high-pressure fuel injectors are used to reduce noise and comprise only one of numerous underhood features designed to minimize or eliminate noise, vibration and harshness. Other elements include an acoustically tuned engine cover and intake manifold and center-feed fuel lines. Also, a new engine mount system reduces vibration at idle.

The 3.6L engine is mated to the Hydra-Matic 6T75 six-speed automatic transmission, an advanced transmission with clutch-to-clutch shift operation for front- and all-wheel-drive vehicles. The transmission's six-gear configuration allows for a "steep" 4.48:1 first gear, which helps deliver exceptional launch feel, and a 0.74:1 overdrive sixth gear - the "tall" overdrive gear lowers rpm at high speeds, reducing noise and vibration. Also, the 6T75 offers automatic grade braking, shift stabilization and precise shift control.

The available intelligent all-wheel-drive (AWD) system provides increased traction on slippery roads by actively managing the torque distribution between the front and rear axles, based on factors such as wheel speed, throttle and surface conditions. There is no driver intervention; the system automatically decides how much torque to apply and delivers it to the wheels that have the best traction.

Robust chassis, responsive suspension

Chevrolet Traverse rides on a long 118.9-inch (3,019 mm) wheelbase, with a wide 67.8-inch (1,721 mm) front track and 67.4-inch (1,712 mm) rear track - a combination that lowers the center of gravity and enables smooth, stable ride and handling. Sharp reflexes are also supported by independent front and rear suspensions. The front suspension features a MacPherson strut design, with a direct-acting stabilizer bar and aluminum knuckles. Isolated mounting points help reduce noise and vibration.

The rear suspension uses a compact, state-of-the-art linked "H" design, which uses an isolated mounting system to reduce noise and vibration transmitted to the passenger compartment. This design enables the handling prowess that comes with an independent suspension, but with minimal floor pan intrusion - a feature that helps the Traverse offer generous passenger and cargo space.

Power-assisted rack-and-pinion steering is standard, with variable-effort steering available. The suspension and steering systems meet the road via 17-, 18- or 20-inch wheels, depending on the model, while four-wheel disc brakes with ABS are standard on all models.

Additional standard electronic braking features include Dynamic Rear Proportioning (DRP), Hydraulic Brake Boost (HBB) and Panic Brake Assist (PBA). DRP optimizes front to rear brake balance by dynamically adjusting the rear brake bias based on driving conditions and vehicle loading. HBB amplifies the hydraulic brake force to assist the driver under low or temporarily low engine vacuum conditions to reduce stopping distance. PBA optimizes stopping by adding or maintaining brake pressure even if the driver unconsciously or involuntarily backs off braking during a panic or emergency situation.

Also standard are several features that enhance ride and handling, as well as safety:

StabiliTrak electronic stability control system with rollover mitigation technology
Traction control system
Tire pressure monitoring system
Comprehensive safety

The Chevrolet Traverse has 360-degree safety system that helps protect passengers before, during and after a crash, including new anchor pretensioners for outboard occupants and pelvic-thorax seat-mounted side air bags.

A strong structure is the foundation, and it is augmented by a wide stance and low center of gravity that reduce the likelihood of a rollover. Traverse's responsive four-wheel independent suspension also enhances safety by providing stable ride and handling characteristics.

The Traverse's structure is reinforced in numerous areas with high-strength steel, including a stiff steel cross-car beam welded across the floor between the B-pillars. It also uses dual-phase steel in select areas, such as the lower engine compartment rails. Dual-phase steel is strengthened in the paint oven and offers easier formability, reduced mass, greater strength and better crash energy absorption than most high-strength steels.

2009 Chevrolet Traverse is equipped with six standard air bags: two dual-stage frontal air bags, for the driver and front passenger, two seat-mounted pelvic-thorax side-impact air bags in the first row, which provide improved occupant coverage when compared against previous thorax side air bags, and two head curtain side-impact air bags that cover all three seating rows. The head curtain side air bags are among the longest air bags in any production vehicle.

Complementing the air bags is GM's rollover sensing system, which can pre-emptively activate the side-impact air bags if sensors determine a rollover is imminent. In the event of a rollover, the air bags stay inflated longer to provide increased occupant containment. Dual front-seat safety belt pretensioners (anchor and retractor) also are part of the Traverse's standard safety equipment.

The Chevrolet Traverse comes standard with OnStar Generation 7 (with a one-year Directions & Connections plan), which features Turn by Turn Navigation and the Advanced Automatic Crash Notification system. If the crash activates an air bag, the OnStar system automatically notifies an OnStar advisor, who immediately calls the vehicle and/or summons emergency help.

Also, on vehicles equipped with the available navigation system, the OnStar package includes OnStar Direction Download. With it, the customer can call OnStar with an address and the advisor will send the information directly to the navigation system, proving quick, hands-free guidance.

Once upon a time, General Motors' mid-sized models were the perennial top-selling passenger cars in America. Within my own lifetime, the Oldsmobile Cutlass topped the sales charts for years on end. But somewhere along the way, it all went pear-shaped for GM. Its cars went from being perpetual sales leaders into a perpetual sales decline. As GM's car sales tanked, the Toyota Camry and Honda Accord picked up the slack and are now considered the standard by which others in the class are measured.

The first signs of a real revival in the GM sedan lineup appeared in 2006 when the Saturn Aura debuted to decent reviews though somewhat lukewarm sales. Then, last January at the Detroit Auto Show, GM debuted two new production sedans, the Cadillac CTS and the car that just spent a week in the Autoblog Garage, the 2008 Chevrolet Malibu. The Malibu is here now, so let's find out what it's like to live with for a week.

GM Product Schedule Released

Details of the General Motors / United Auto Workers agreement have been released, including inside information about the future production schedule at the American auto maker. As part of the contract agreement, UAW sought assurances that GM would guarantee that certain products would continue to be built in American factories, as opposed to Canadian, Mexican, or overseas plants.

Included in a document released to the media by UAW were GM's plans to continue building current and future products at 16 of 18 U.S. assembly plants. Also included is apparently confidential information about GM product cycles. These plans include:

  • The Corvette and the Cadillac XLR will continue through 2011, with new models to begin production in 2012 at the Bowling Green, Kentucky plant.
  • After a couple of years of waiting, the new Camaro is expected to begin production in 2011 at Lansing, Michigan.
  • Pontiac's Solstice and the Saturn Sky roadsters will continue assebly through 2012 in Wilmington, Delaware, but they have no announced replacement at this time. The car is rumored to begin production that year in Bowling Green, Kentucky, opening the door for a possible redesign of the two-seaters. Sadly, this could mean the end of the Wilmington plant.
  • The Chevrolet Volt, a highly-anticipated electric car, will begin production in 2010 at a plant near Detroit. The MPV7 will also go into production here starting in 2009.
  • The Pontiac G6 will continue being made in Orion, Michigan, until 2013. Orion is not yet assigned a new vehicle to manufacture.
  • Cadillac models CTS, STS, and SRX will all continue to be built for two years, with a new CTS wagon and CTS coupe starting up in 2009. Two more cadillac styles are expected to be manufactured beginning in 2011. This will all take place in Lansing, Michigan.
  • Current models of the Hummer H3 and H3T will end in 2011, with updated models heading into production that year in Shreveport, Louisiana.
  • Also in Shreveport, the Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon will only exist up through 2011.
  • Cadillac's DTS and the Buick Lucerne will stay in production through 2010 near Detroit, in Hamtramck.
  • Buick Lucerne and Cadillac DTS continue in Hamtramck until 2010.
  • The Lansing/Delta Michigan plant will also see several GMC, Saturn, and Buick products continue assebly through 2011, with replacements coming in 2012.
  • A brand new, globally distributed subcompact is to be produced in Lordstown, Ohio, where the Chevy Cobalt and Pontiac G5 small cars are already built. Those cars will be phases out in 2009. Two new cars will also be manufactured here starting in 2011.
  • GM will be closing a plant in Doraville, Georgia. Workers there have already been notified.

The one assembly plant not mentioned in the deal builds midsize SUVs. The Moraine, Ohio, location is not mentioned because a separate union covers workers there.

``The whole thing looks fantastic,'' said Dave Green, UAW local president in Lordstown, Ohio, where new subcompacts will be built. However, the nearly 1,000 employees in Doraville, Georgia, might not feel the same. They have since discovered their plant will be shuttered.

Despite what others are reporting, this deal is certainly not final. With 16,000 employees becoming eligible for buyouts for carrying out non-essential duties, and new hires in noncore functions expected to get half the starting salary of an assembly line worker, there is the possibility that union employees will not ratify the agreement.

GM's 74,000 UAW members are to vote on the contract, with voting expected to be complete by October 10.

Chevrolet Beat Concept Confirmed to go to Production

Beat beats Groove and Trax

Last July at the New York Auto Show Chevrolet revealed three concepts, the Beat, Groove and Trax. GM set up a website and let consumers choose which one of the concepts should make it to production and the results are in. The Chevrolet Beat Concept has wiped the floor with the Groove and Trax concepts. “The people have spoken,” said Ed Peper, Chevrolet general manager, “Chevrolet was overwhelmed by the positive reaction to each of the ‘triplets,’ but the Beat was the clear winner.”

The Beat has been designed by the, former Daewoo, GM Design Studio in South Korea and will be situated in the fast growing A-class segment for the global market. Actually, not exactly global, the Chevrolet Beat will initially be targeted to 'everywhere but North America' (makes you wonder why the announcement was made at LA and not in Frankfurt, Tokyo or Seoul) with sales starting mid-2009.

Press Release

CHEVROLET’S GOT THE BEAT: PRODUCTION SLATED BASED ON GLOBAL POPULARITY

A vehicle based on the Chevrolet Beat concept, which swept through auto shows around the globe and the Internet earlier this year, will go into global production, Chevrolet announced today at the 2007 Los Angeles Auto Show.

An online poll that attracted more than 1.8 million voters helped influence the decision to take the concept to production. The distinctly styled A-class car will be initially targeted to markets outside of U.S. and Canada, starting in mid-2009.

“The people have spoken. The vote count tripled all previous GM online consumer surveys, telling us the Beat resonated with customers all around the world,” said Ed Peper, Chevrolet general manager. “Chevrolet was overwhelmed by the positive reaction to each of the ‘triplets,’ but the Beat was the clear winner.”

The production model will carry the spirit of the expressive Beat concept, offering compact, city-friendly dimensions and a small-displacement engine that delivers excellent fuel economy. It adds further depth and breadth to Chevrolet’s global lineup, which is sold in more than 90 countries, giving the brand a leadership position in the segment – the fastest-growing automotive segment in many regions around the world.

“Fuel solutions and great-looking cars are at the core of Chevrolet’s values, and this new production model aligns perfectly with those tenents,” said Peper. “It will be truly global, built around the world for a variety of diverse markets.”

The Beat and the other concepts highlighted in the online survey were developed primarily at GM’s Design Studio in Bupyeong, South Korea , with input from GM’s global network of designers and GM’s Korean partner, GM Daewoo. As South Korea is a primary market for this exciting new car, production will begin there.

Beat beginnings

Conceived to evoke the mood of a speedy micro import tuner, the Beat concept debuted at the 2007 New York Auto Show, along with two other concepts, Groove and Trax. All were designed to appeal to young car buyers in urban markets, infusing the energy, diversity and excitement of urban life into cars that deliver good-looking fun, fuel economy and value.

The Beat concept was designed and built leveraging GM’s Global Product Development process, created from best practices around the world that integrate design, engineering, powertrain and manufacturing organizations to ensure each vehicle program meets its quality, timing and business targets, yet is responsive to the needs in regional markets.

As part of its global product development process, GM is growing the skills and capabilities of its design and engineering centers around the world, using key tools and technologies, such as a global virtual design and engineering network, that allow engineers and designers to collaborate with each other worldwide.

The production car based on the Beat concept incorporates these resources, bringing to market quickly a right-sized car, with a right-sized ecological footprint at the right time.

Chevrolet Aveo5

New Aveo5 subcompact makes North American debut

LOS ANGELES – During a brisk parade of vehicles ranging from a gasoline-powered subcompact to a hydrogen fuel cell crossover, extended-range electric vehicle and three hybrids, Chevrolet today rolled out a major initiative at the Los Angeles Auto Show – Chevrolet Fuel Solutions – to aggressively promote the fuel-saving technologies available in the brand’s current and future lineups.

The event included the North American debut of the newly redesigned Aveo5 subcompact, the five-door companion to the popular Aveo sedan.

The redesigned, next-generation 2009 Chevrolet Aveo5 fuel-efficient five-door subcompact, which arrives at North American dealerships early next year, features new exterior styling, a refined and spacious new interior, and an advanced 1.6L Ecotec I4 engine with variable valve timing (VVT) that delivers more power with an estimated highway fuel economy of 34 mpg (with the standard manual transmission).

Already known for its generous content for the segment, the 2009 Aveo5 features more upgrades and refinements including standard OnStar with Turn-by-Turn Navigation and available XM radio – two customer-pleasing features that make the vehicle a more formidable contender in the segment and even more attractive to North American motorists who are youthful in spirit.

Chevrolet will continue to position Aveo as a “small car with a big attitude,” keeping its signature tall-car roominess that accommodates five, six-foot tall occupants in a comfortable, ergonomic upright seating position.

2009 Chevrolet Silverado Hybrid

Affirming its commitment to fuel solutions and truck leadership, Chevrolet announced the 2009 Chevrolet Silverado Hybrid, a full-size pickup that achieves 40-percent greater city fuel economy and a 25-percent improvement in overall fuel economy. It is expected to be the most fuel-efficient full-size pickup on the market, besting the current V-8 leader – the non-hybrid Silverado.

Partnering General Motors’ patented 2-Mode Hybrid system and a powerful 6.0L gas V-8, the Silverado Hybrid delivers highly efficient performance while maintaining full-size pickup capability. The hybrid system provides all-electric driving at low speeds, allowing fuel savings to be realized even when the truck is fully loaded or towing a trailer. Silverado Hybrid can tow up to 6,100 pounds (2,767 kg).

“The Silverado Hybrid is the newest example of Chevy’s heritage of truck innovation, which stretches back 90 years, and exemplifies Chevrolet’s commitment to fuel solutions,” said Ed Peper, Chevrolet general manager. “Silverado Hybrid will deliver fuel economy comparable to many small and midsize trucks that are equipped with four- or six-cylinder engines – all while delivering the capability customers expect of Chevy full-size trucks.”

The Silverado Hybrid goes on sale in late 2008 and is based on the award-winning Silverado platform that was introduced for the 2007 model year. It will be offered in the Crew Cab body style; 2WD and 4WD models. Each model features Silverado’s “Pure Pickup” trim and comes standard with several popular features, including StabiliTrak electronic stability control system, a locking rear axle and a trailering package.

“Silverado has one of the broadest and deepest lineups of models, configurations and capabilities,” said Peper. “The Silverado Hybrid adds to the breadth and depth of offerings, while carrying the core elements that make Silverado one of the most well-equipped and safest trucks in the market.”

Silverado offers dual-stage frontal air bags and head curtain side air bags; and is the only full-size truck with five-star side impact ratings in federal crash tests.

Hybrid details

The Silverado Hybrid’s fuel-saving performance is derived from GM’s advanced Electrically Variable Transmission (EVT) and 300-volt nickel-metal hydride Energy Storage System (ESS), which work in concert with the standard 6.0L V-8 Gen IV gasoline engine with Active Fuel Management (AFM) and late intake valve closing (LIVC) technology. GM’s hybrid technology system not only enables the Silverado to launch and drive up to 30 mph on electricity alone, it also allows the 6.0L V-8 engine to operate in its more economical V-4 mode for longer periods.

With GM’s 2-Mode Hybrid system, the electric power used to propel the vehicle is generated by the hybrid system itself. When the brakes are applied or the vehicle is coasting, the electric motors within the hybrid system create electricity that is stored in the 300-volt battery. This stored energy is used to move the vehicle and the regenerative braking cycle is renewed.

The 2-Mode Hybrid system provides seamless, dependable power on demand in an efficient package. In fact, its electric motor is less than half the size of those in single-mode hybrid systems. This technology was developed and is still used in fleets of hybrid transit buses in more than 70 North American and European cities. Scaled-down for use in passenger vehicles, the 2-Mode system delivers fuel savings where it is needed most – in large vehicles with high levels of capability. It is a core part of GM’s energy diversity efforts, which are centered on reducing dependence on petroleum, improving fuel economy, reducing emissions and minimizing the automobile’s impact on the environment.

With the fuel mileage savings of the hybrid system and Silverado’s 26-gallon (98-liter) fuel tank, the Silverado Hybrid has a cruising range of more than 500 miles – enough to drive from San Francisco to San Diego.

Quiet and smooth

Integration of the hybrid system on the Silverado is seamless – the battery pack is located in the chassis, beneath the rear seat – and perceptible only in what it lacks: noise.

“The Silverado Hybrid is exceptionally quiet,” said Mark Cieslak, vehicle chief engineer. “From a passenger’s perspective, the refinement of the hybrid system is quite evident throughout the driving experience, and showcases itself when the vehicle is moving under electric power.”

Contributors to the quiet driving experience include:

  • New exhaust system and resonator tuned for the 6.0L engine’s Active Fuel Management operation
  • Additional engine intake induction tuning for reduced interior noise and pleasing sound quality
  • Low-rolling resistance, “quiet-tuned” P265/65R18 tires for reduced road noise
  • Electrically driven 300-volt air conditioning compressor reduces vibration and allows the HVAC system to cool the passenger compartment even when the gasoline engine is shut off. Includes the standard tri-zone HVAC system
  • Electrically driven 42-volt variable-assist power steering reduces vibration and provides up to a 0.5-mpg fuel economy improvement by reducing parasitic losses common in belt-driven hydraulic systems
  • Energy Storage System (ESS) cooling system internal fan is tuned to be quiet at low vehicle speeds when the fan could more easily be heard by the occupants

Along with quietness, the Silverado Hybrid also delivers exceptional driving smoothness, thanks to specifically tuned shocks for its Z85 suspension and a new, hydraulic body mount. Located on the passenger-side of the chassis, the hydraulic mount provides a dramatic improvement in highway driving smoothness, particularly on rough or choppy road surfaces.

“The hydraulic mount makes a dramatic improvement in ride quality,” said Cieslak.

Additional details specific to the Silverado Hybrid include aerodynamic aids. A slightly deeper front air dam and a hard tonneau cover for the bed reduce air drag, fostering maximum efficiency. The tonneau cover has a three-segment design that enables easy folding or removal.

Trailering performance

In addition to increased fuel economy, the Silverado Hybrid’s electrically variable transmission also provides tremendous trailering capability, enhancing the smoothness and driving quality when towing. Electric drive is enabled up to approximately 30 mph (48 km/h), even when towing, allowing fuel savings when the truck is towing a trailer.

“Along with being very smooth, the EVT always provides abundant torque at all RPM levels for easy towing,” said Cieslak. “It is particularly helpful on grades, as the EVT’s greater ratio spread allows the engine to hold optimal rpm for smooth, steady performance, with no hunting between higher and lower gears.”

The EVT incorporates grade braking and tap up/tap down shift control. It also benefits towing on curves or lower-speed back roads, as exceptionally smooth gear transitions eliminate the “shift shock” torque disruption that can occur during abrupt shifts, such as when slowing or braking.

“All-around driving performance, whether towing or not, is excellent,” said Cieslak. “The smoothness and quietness of the EVT is the icing on the cake that comes with fuel savings.”

Hybrid heritage

The 2009 Silverado Hybrid is the second full-size hybrid pickup from Chevrolet. The previous-generation Silverado was offered as a mild hybrid that professionals found useful as a power generator at worksites.

The new Silverado Hybrid, which features GM’s sophisticated hybrid system answers the needs of a broader range of customers and takes advantage of significant technological advances that have been realized since the previous hybrid was offered. The Silverado Hybrid joins the recently introduced Tahoe Hybrid, which also uses the 2-Mode system.

Chevrolet is one of America’s best-known and best-selling automotive brands. With the largest dealer network in the United States, Chevy is the leader in full-size trucks and the leader in sales of vehicles priced $35,000 and above. Chevrolet delivers more-than-expected value in every vehicle category, offering cars and trucks priced from $9,995 to $83,175. Chevy delivers expressive design, spirited performance and great value with standard features usually found only on more expensive vehicles.

Chevrolet Prisma "Y" Concept

Based on the newly launched Sedan Prisma, it is a very versatile multipurpose vehicle

Inspired in the new model recently launched by Chevrolet, Sedan Prisma, General Motors do Brasil’s Design Area created Prisma “Y”, a stylish vehicle which was carefully conceived with a view to developing an adventurous version.

Prisma “Y” is a model aimed at young consumers who are very interested in adventures”, emphasized Carlos Barba, GM Design Director for LAAM Division, encompassing Latin America, Africa and Middle East regions.

The design was totally developed by using the modern GM Design Department’s virtual reality room – the only existing one in the automotive sector all around Country -, and the letter “Y” is the initial of the English word “young” or “youth”.

“For developing Prisma “Y”, we focused on finding out the current directions of the Brazilian market. Our challenge was to find out the Brazilian tendencies and lifestyle”, commented Carlos Barba.

According to Barba, Prisma “Y” is a sportive and versatile vehicle, with capacity to carry not only five people, but also several camping and surfing equipment, including surfboards and bikes. “Everything that reminds us of weekend recreation and leisure is what our concept vehicle aims at”, added Barba.

A multipurpose vehicle to be used in the city, highways and countryside

We sought to create a perfect balance for the vehicle to be used in the city, highways and countryside”. Having an appropriate size and features to be used in the city, Prisma “Y” is always ready to provide weekend leisure on the beach or countryside”, stated Barba.

The main challenge of the Design Department was to add the practicality and robustness look of the Sport Utility Vehicles (SUVs) to the Prisma model. The main change in the appearance is the type of the body, turning from a sedan to a multipurpose model.

As one of the most important features of Prisma “Y” is its luggage compartment, the GM’s Design Department took special care for its functionality and volumetric capacity. Despite of its volumetric capacity, the horizontal and vertical opening dimensions are very competitive.

For this reason, the Prisma “Y” ’s luggage compartment had its volumetric capacity increased, in comparison to the Sedan Prisma’s, and its access improved for loading large-sized objects, including bikes, camping equipments and other issues related to leisure activities.

Distinguished Look

The second challenge faced during the conception of Prisma “Y” was to lift the suspension system as well as install all-terrain tires (asphalt/dirt pavements). The 16-inch wheels were exclusively designed for the vehicle.

Like Prisma, what prevails on its front robust end is the trapezoidal graphic element. The remarkable vertical central fold where is applied the new Chevrolet logo is applied with a golden bowtie takes also part of the new brand identity.

The front bumpers, painted in gray-color, with silver-color details, are equipped with integrated auxiliary headlight. Its design is inspired in off-road vehicles, whose angle of attack is a very important aspect to be considered.

As for the Prisma “Y” ’s body sides, is the fender trim as well the lower part of the doors painted in gray-color draw attention. The larger rear-mirrors were also exclusively designed to match the vehicle’s appearance.

Horizontal lines with clean and remarkable surfaces prevail on the rear end. The front and the rear ends are both sectioned by a vertical fold, the new brand’s DNA, where the new Chevrolet logo is applied to. The rear bumpers follow the same design line of the front ones. The rear lid window is integrated to the side ones, providing a better rear view.

The main attractive feature of Prisma “Y” is the panoramic sunroof. All passengers can use it in addition to the central upper console integrated to the dashboard, which extends backwards, increasing the number of object-holders available in its interior.

The body was painted in glossy blue color with gray and silver details.

Off-Road Characteristics

Prisma “Y” ’s interior was developed in such a way to establish synergy with the same design style used for the exterior part of vehicle. As a result, Prisma ‘Y’ got modern and simple shapes, both for the instrument panel and door finish panels. The GM do Brasil’s new concept car will be equipped with customization items, made of exclusive materials appropriate for off-road use.

When conceived, Prisma “Y” was also equipped with rear seats that can be completely folded up to the floor level, following the flex-space system adopted for mono-volume Zafira.
